Northern League Senior Team
Squad for 2010-2011 Season
Chris Hardy
Manager. This will be Chardy's fourth season at Guisborough and he reached the 100 game milestone last season. Every season he has managed to attain a higher place in the Division with a fifth place finish last season. Previous coaching roles with Bishop Auckland, Thornaby and local football with Thornaby Athletic. Chardy has an eye for spotting potential young players and developing them into Northern League footballers.
Stephen Gill
Assistant Manager. Gilly has bag loads of Northern League experience keeping goal previously for Guisborough and even last season he was asked to put on the gloves to cover for injury and he did a great job. He even came on as a substitute outfield player in the last game of the season and scored a goal that many a centre forward would have been proud of when he sent the keeper the wrong way. He is now in his second season coaching for Guisborough with experience as assistant at Norton & Stockton Ancients and Billingham Town Reserves.
Scott Dalgarno
Kit Man. Dally's third season in the role. Very popular with the players.
Lee Bythway
Defender/midfielder. Lee was transferred from Northallerton to Guisborough Town a few seasons ago. He is a solid member of the squad with a cultured left foot. He asserts that ANGB is really bang out of order.
Tom Portas
Midfielder/defender. Tom has proved to be a real find with back to back assured performances. He plays with a maturity above his young age. Last season he was awarded "Young Player of the Year" and "Supporters' Player of the Year". Tom never uses a big word when a diminutive one will suffice.
Austin Johnston
Ozzy is a midfield dynamo who never gives up the cause. Spent the first six months of last season recovering from a serious injury picked up pre-season and only restarted in February. Previous clubs include Sunderland Nissana and Marske United. His motto is "never say never" which makes it really difficult to tell people what his motto is.
Paul Roddam
Midfielder/Forward. Rodders is now in his second spell with Guisborough after playing for Billingham Town and Seaham Red Star. Good all round ability with an excellent work ethic. Last season he won the "Players' Player of the Year" and the "Manager's Player of the Year". He missed his bus the other day on the way to training and thought he shouldn't get so sentimental about public transport.
Gary Wood
Defender/Midfielder. Local boy Gary plays in a number of different positions, all with assured level of performances. Woody also has good technique and a real winning mentality. Previously with Marske United. He lost his watch earlier and would have looked for it but he just didn't have the time.
David Onions
Forward. DO is widely regarded as one of the best centre forwards in the Northern League and last season was the Division's Second Top Goal Scorer with 25 League goals. He scored 31 goals in total for the Priorymen. A Guisborough resident who will once again captain the side this season. Previous clubs include Marske United, Northallerton and Billingham Town. During last season's FA Cup run the Wakefield press nicknamed him the "Dangerous One". DO bought his son a piece of flat cardboard last Christmas although wondered what he wanted an ex box for??
Luke Bythway
Forward. Luke played for Doncaster Rovers before being released on medical grounds. Now in his fourth season with Guisborough Town and scored 9 goals last season before an injury which ruled him out the final games. Last year he threw rice during an Indian wedding and accidently started a pilau fight.
Lee Farrington
Defender/Midfielder. Faz has previously played with Norton & Stockton Ancients and is a a skilled and versatile player who keeps his head when under pressure. He once worked for the NHS moving patients around the hospital - it was a rewarding job.
Shane Henry
A lively midfielder who can make excellent runs beyond the oppositions' defences. He has an addiction to Cheddar cheese but says it's only mild.
Michael Roberts
Midfieder/forward. Mikey is another young player picked up from local football before last season. He has good technique and energy about his play. A popular one with the female supporters and he scored 7 goals last season including the FA Cup tie with Scarborough Athletic. He sometimes likes his steak undercooked, but that's rare.
Richard Walker
Ritchie came to Guisborough from Dunston UTS and made an impact with his ability to run past defenders and deliver precision crosses. He has written a book about the anatomy of a pig which is pretty standard but when you get to the end there is a twist in the tale.
Scott Allison
Goal keeper. Scott was born in Guisborough in 1987 and after starting his professional career with York City has also played at Gateshead, East Sirling, Hartlepool United and Cardiff City. He was transferred to us from Merthyr Tydfil in 2008 and then he went to Seaham Red Star before returning last season to cover for Andy Rafferty. Raffa is now keeping goal for Hartlepool United with Scott filling the Number One slot. Scott at 6ft 1in (185 cms in new money) once dreamed of being a professional wrestler and came up with a strategy to beat the Rock by taking a sheet of A4 paper into the ring with him as everyone knows that Paper beats Rock.
Mark Nicholson
The first of just a few new members to the squad and Mark played in the First Division last season as Centre Half at Horden CW. He does not care if he cannot spell Armageddon, after all it's not the end of the world?
Karl Charlton
A left sided midfielder who came to us in the close season from Whitby Town having played for the Seasiders since 2007 when he took the road to the coast from Northallerton Town. He had previously played at youth level for Darlington and Sunderland. He once noticed that his ironing board cover was wrinkled and laughed at the irony. Then he laughed again because irony has the word iron in it.
Chris I'Anson
A forward who joined Guisborough from Horden CW last season and has stayed with us for the current campaign to get back into the First Division. He is trying to work out if swimming is so good for your figure, how do you explain whales?
Nathan Steel
A strong forward with experience with Middlesbrough, Darlington, Motherwell and Rochdale. He has his own time machine which he climbs in and it takes him 7 hours into the future. It's called a bed.
Jonathan McDonald
Goalkeeper ex York City currently on loan from Norton & Stockton Ancients. He banged his head last night and put some margarine on it but woke up this morning and can't belive it's not better.
Justin Hutchinson
Goalkeeper who last season played for New Marske FC. He was so poor when growing up, he couldn't even afford to pay attention.
Micheal James
centre half/right back now in his second season with the Priorymen. Discovered playing for North Ormesby under 18‘s. He once spiced up his hamster's boring life by hiding a bowl of Ready Brek under the the sawdust and placing a sign saying "Danger, Quicksand"
Joel Guy
A play making centre half/midfielder previously with Billingham Synthonia but has now returned for his second spell with Guisborough Town. His mate wanted to play hide and seek dressed in a bobble hat and a stripy jumper whilst holding a walking stick - what a Wally.
Jack Proctor
Transferred from Spennymoor a few seasons ago after impressing in a pre season match. He has an unrealistic hatred for yellow cartoon characters and the psychiatrist says he's homerphobic.
