Guisborough Town Football Club History
Guisborough Town Football Club formed in 1973 joining the Northern Alliance. There is however evidence to show that there were football teams in the town such as Guisborough Belmont Athletic in the 1920s and a team named simply Guisborough in 1940s.
Guisborough Town finished top of the Northern Alliance and won promotion to the Midland League in 1979-80 and reaching the final of the FA Vase tournament. Guisborough Town were beaten that day by Stamford at Wembleey 2-0. They played in the Midland League for two seasons, ending in 5th position in both occasions. Then they became a founding member of the Northern Counties East League where they played for three seasons before joining the Northern League Division Two. After spending two seasons in the league they were promoted in second place during 1986-87, to the Northern League Division One. Shortly after they managed to appear in a FA Cup First Round match against league opposition Bury narrowly losing 1-0 at Ayresome Park, Middlesbrough. Other achievements include Northern League Cup winners 1988-89, Cleator Cup winners 1989, Northern Alliance 1979-1980, Northern alliance League cup 1978-79 and reaching the finals of the North Riding Senior Cup 5 years running from 1989-1994 and winning 4 of these finals in the process.
At the end of 2004-2005 season they were relegated to Division Two. They are now in their 5th season in Division Two after finishing 19th in 2005/6, 9th in 2006/7,12th in 2007/8, 7th in 2008/9 and last season made a serious aim at promotion with a 5th position in the table. Over the past few seasons the club has gone from strength to strength now boasting senior teams and 10 junior teams and has been accredited a Charter Standard club.The ANL team is managed by Chris Hardy with help from Steven Gill and Mark Harkin.
They play their home games at King George V in Guisborough where record home attendance was 3,112 against Hungerford in the FA Vase semi final 2nd leg on 29th March 1980.
The new home strip for the 2010/11 season is white shirts with red trim, red shorts and red socks with the nickname being "The Priorymen".
